Job Posting: RN - Psych - New York City, NY

Location: 1111 Amsterdam Ave, New York City, New York, 10025

Start Date: 07/07/2025

End Date: 10/04/2025

**Schedule**

Shift: 7 pm - 730 am

Days: 3 days per week, 11.50 hours per day, and 34.50 hours per week

Weekend Requirement: To be discussed

Position Overview:

Job Summary:

A Registered Professional Nurse who delivers safe, competent, and high-quality care to an assigned group of patients and their significant others, based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

PATIENT CARE

1. Provides patient care by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care and by applying the nursing process based on theory, research, evidence-based practice, and approved organizational nursing standards.

2. Assesses and evaluates patient needs, utilizing critical thinking skills to guide patient care management.

3. Integrates relevant assessment and intervention techniques in the delivery of nursing care.

4. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.

5. Prioritizes all aspects of patient care, including education, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and appropriate delegation.

6. Educates patients and caregivers—based on their needs and readiness to learn—regarding the care plan, transitions of care, health promotion, and disease prevention.

7. Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, families, and all members of the interdisciplinary care team.

8. Manages assignments within the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing and demonstrates efficient use of material and clinical resources.

PATIENT EXPERIENCE

1. Exemplifies the principles of Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care (MSHRCC) by participating in initiatives such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, HELP (High-Risk Medications, Equipment, Lines/Drains/Airway, Pain, and Plan of Care), AM/PM Care, 5-Minute Sit-Down, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, Discharge Wrap-Up, and MD/RN Unit Collaboration.

2. Considers the patient’s values, preferences, cultural background, expressed needs, and knowledge level in all care decisions.

3. Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with patients and their families.

4. Applies evidence-based practices to better understand and respond to patients' perceptions of their care.

5. Initiates service recovery for patients and families with concerns and escalates issues to the Clinical Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Shift Manager, or Patient Relations as appropriate.

6. Demonstrates empathy, respect, compassion, and active listening through verbal and non-verbal communication.

7. Encourages and supports the use of evidence-based practices among staff to improve patient experience.

8. Conducts Purposeful Hourly Rounding (PHR), addressing the “4 Ps” (Pain, Position, Personal Needs, and Placement).

QUALITY AND SAFETY

1. Delivers safe, efficient, and patient-centered care while identifying and addressing barriers and opportunities for improvement.

2. Demonstrates the clinical knowledge and skills essential for delivering high-quality and safe care to the patient population served.

3. Implements institutional and evidence-based process improvement strategies.

4. Actively participates in formal and informal peer and institutional review processes.

5. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice projects, and nursing research.

6. Contributes to safety, quality measures, and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.

7. Applies principles of high reliability to reduce risk and promote a safe environment for patients.

8. Identifies and escalates safety concerns or deviations from best practices according to the institutional chain of command.

9. Utilizes electronic health records and information systems to document nursing care in support of quality improvement and performance metrics.

**Qualifications:**

Skills:

Required Skills & Experience:

-CPEP - Must have 2 years or more of experience for consideration.

-CPI 2 years of psychiatry experience.

-Min 2 years RN experience.

-1 year travel experience for Travel positions.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

-EPIC exp highly preferred.

-(Will Float to Adult Psych, Geri-Psych)

-(PATIENT RADIO 1:7)

Education:

-An associate degree in nursing is considered only with relevant experience and/or active matriculation in a BSN Program.

Preferred Education:

-Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing preferred.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

-RN License in NY.

-Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA.

-CPI or PMCS Certification.
