Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) – Cancer/Oncology

Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse Specialist is the clinical leader for a program or area of nursing practice. The advanced knowledge and skills required for this role include clinical expertise in a focus area, evidence-based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring, and change leadership. The specialized knowledge and skills fall within three areas of focus: patient/family, nurses and nursing practice, and the organization/system. The Clinical Nurse Specialist coordinates and guides clinical activities/projects of nurses within a practice area. The Clinical Nurse Specialist is accountable for collaborating with members of the health care team to design, implement, and measure safe, cost effective, evidenced-based care strategies. The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for maintaining current professional knowledge and competencies and contributing to the advancement of the practice of nursing at the local or national level.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and consult in the management of complex patient and family care by demonstrating clinical expertise in oncology through the integration of advanced skills, knowledge, competencies and practice.
  • Utilize evidence-based practice, standards of care, and research to transform practice within the organization to enhance quality, cost effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Foster professional performance, and influence health care initiatives to generate positive patient outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in nursing
  • Current New York State RN licensure and CNS certification
  • 5 years recent clinical nursing experience in oncology
  • 2 years of teaching experience in classroom or clinical setting with experience in staff development
  • ONS Certification
  • Current Chemotherapy & Biotherapy provider card
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

Salary: $145k-$160k
